OUR 15-STEP

FINISHING PROCESS

The solid hardwoods Vision Cabinet Source uses for our cabinet doors are beautiful and durable from the start, but it’s our finishing process that makes them truly special. Our 15-step process includes carefully preparing the wood, applying stain, sealing the finish, applying specialized glazed finishes and highlights, and applying several layers of protective topcoat. Each product is hand-sanded five times during our process. That’s right…five times. It’s this kind of attention to detail that helps ensure a smooth and durable finish on your cabinets for years to come.

The Vision Stain Finishing Process:

STEP 1
RAW MATERIAL SELECTION

We only use premium grade wood in the making of cabinets.

STEP 2
PREPARATORY SANDING

All of our cabinetry is assured to have the best possible surface for receiving our finish material through a two-step sanding process. With the average moisture level of 5-7%.

STEP 3
CLEANING

Every piece of wood is then thoroughly cleaned after sanding to maintain a consistent and uniform surface for the final beauty of your cabinetry. All surfaces are vacuumed for the complete removal of small dust, debris and fiber particles.

STEP 4
STAINING

The first coat of finish evens the tone variations of the wood for a more harmonious finished product. The process used is a fine mist that is environmentally friendly by minimizing emissions.

STEP 5
WASH COAT

The wash coat is applied to seal the first application of finish and add to the visual depth of the stain.

STEP 6
DRYING

To set the initial finish applications.

STEP 7
HAND SANDING

This step assures a smooth, level surface to receive the final stain processes.

STEP 8
WIPING STAIN

Final stain coat is applied and hand rubbed to enhance the wood grain’s definition.

STEP 9
DRYING

To set the final finish application.

STEP 10
SEALANT

Sealant is applied to assure a smooth surface texture for the top coat.

STEP 11
DRYING

To set the sealant application.

STEP 12
SANDING

Every door is then sanded again to remove any raised graining.

STEP 13
GLAZING

Our glazes add a rich paint and enhance your door’s details. Depending on the technique required to achieve our handsome looks, the glaze is either detailed or hand wiped on the door to emphasize your door’s character.

STEP 14
TOP COAT

This step assures the beauty of your cabinetry for years to come. Our top coat provides not only durable protection for your cabinetry’s finish but also has anti-yellowing properties to keep your finish crisp.

STEP 15
FINAL INSPECTION

The final inspection of the finishing process is conducted in our specially designed cabinet light room, where all cabinets are thoroughly re-inspected, for the highest quality and consistent finish.
